At first glance, this North Park, San Diego home looked like it needed fascia replacement along with standard residential roofing work. From the ground, the roofline appeared straight, the gutters were still attached, and there were no dramatic signs of failure from the street. However, we already knew the fascia was deteriorated and would need to be addressed. What we didn’t know yet was how much more was happening beneath the surface. Once our team at Ford Roofing began a deeper inspection, the full extent of the damage was uncovered.
The fascia boards were indeed severely rotted, but the problem didn’t stop there. Years of trapped moisture had spread beyond the roof edge, leading to rotted decking and compromised framing. This hidden damage had been quietly weakening the roof’s support system and affecting how water drained off the home. None of this was clearly visible from the outside, but it was already impacting the roof’s long-term stability. Installing a new roof over this failing structure would have only covered up the problem and led to much larger repairs down the road.
At that point, the roof was relying on wood that could no longer properly support it. Drainage was not functioning the way it should, and the integrity of the roof system was already at risk from multiple layers of deterioration.
After
Rather than simply replacing the fascia and moving on, we rebuilt the structure the right way. The rotted fascia was fully removed, which opened up access to the surrounding areas and revealed the additional damage to the decking and framing. All compromised wood was carefully removed and replaced, restoring the structural strength the roof depends on.
New, solid decking and reinforced framing were installed where needed, followed by new fascia boards to give the roof edge a dependable foundation again. With proper structural support restored, the gutters could be securely mounted, drainage was corrected, and the entire roofline regained its strength and stability. Only after the structure was sound did we move forward knowing the roofing system would perform as intended for the long term.
The Difference
Before, this home had multiple hidden structural issues that would have shortened the life of any new roof installed on top of it. After, it has a fully reinforced framework — from framing to decking to fascia — that protects the entire roofing system from premature failure. This transformation wasn’t about appearances. It was about rebuilding the roof’s support system from the inside out.
That’s what sets Ford Roofing apart. We don’t stop at the surface. We handle everything from roofing to full structural wood restoration, making sure every project is built correctly, starting with the frame that holds it all together.
